Mission

NAMI enjoys a reputation as “the nation’s voice on mental illness.” We make that reputation real on a daily basis, both as the largest grassroots advocacy organization addressing mental illness and as the way people whose lives have been affected by mental illness find their individual and collective voice.

NAMI recognizes that the key concepts of recovery, resiliency and support are essential to improving the wellness and quality of life of all persons affected by mental illness. Mental illnesses should not be an obstacle to a full and meaningful life for persons who live with them.

As an affiliate under the umbrella of the national organization, NAMI Cobb seeks to serve its local community by embracing the following mission:

  • To provide support, education, and advocacy for persons with mental illness and to their families.
  • To promote better quality of care and the rights and interests of persons with mental illness, particularly of those who cannot speak for themselves, and to advocate policies at the local, state, and national levels to accomplish these objectives.
  • To help families and friends of persons with mental illness by providing emotional support, education and information.
